What is Contemporary dance?

Contemporary dance is a dynamic and expressive form of artistic movement that emerged in the 20th century. It encourages individual expression and creative choreography, breaking away from traditional dance conventions. With its fluid, versatile movements and diverse influences, contemporary dance is a captivating and ever-evolving art form that allows for emotional storytelling and exploration.

Contemporary is creative and flexible. It encompasses the technical elements of highly-structured dance styles like ballet whilst giving each dancer flexibility and the freedom to express themselves. Contemporary is graceful and performances are enthralling, often utilising the floor within the movements.

We give our students the opportunity to improvise and express themselves within their contemporary classes.
